Position Summary:
The Quality Engineer ensures all quality- related processes are robust and completed for new and existing products. This includes production support, customer management (new PPAP’s, annual layouts, complaint resolution, customer inquiries), System Audits, Supply Chain Management, internal documentation, calibrations, QEMS audits and production monitoring documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Production Support (Injection Molding/ Assembly)
- Conducts production round daily
- Supports containment, defect analysis and disposition
- Manages Hold Area Inventory and disposition
Customer Management
- Problem solving and complaint resolution using 8D, DMAIC and necessary customer forms.
- Conducts root cause analysis using tools such as 5 WHY or Ishikawa
- Prepares CpK data analysis using MiniTAB. Creates reports as needed.
APQP/ PPAP Process Support
- Supports quality planning utilizing APQP systems for new and existing products. Creates documentation such as Process Flow, PFMEA, Control Plans, Dimensional Control Plans, Work/ Packaging Instructions and various forms.
- Coordinates annual PPAP submissions requests for customer approval. Perform all needed activities to ensure requirements are met prior to required submission.
System Audits
- Supports Internal audits such as QMS- IATF 16009, EMS 14001, CQI-23, VDA 6.3, Layered Process Audits (LPA) and Reverse- FMEA audits.
- Support External audits such as third- party audits from Customer and QEMS audits
Supply Chain Management
- Support Supply Chain with supplier quality issues
- Supports Supplier PPAP projects
- Supports Supplier audits
Documentation
- Create documentation to support production (eg: Work Instructions, In-process Inspection forms, Quality Alerts, Dimensional Control Plan, Inspection forms).
- Maintains PFMEA/ control plan changes based on new risks identified from Customer issues.
- Prepares presentations describing studies, testing and other quality related duties.
Calibration System Management
- Maintains the calibration schedule
- Submits PO for external calibrations
- Maintains calibration record management on measurement equipment
Required Competencies, Skills and Experience:
- Attention to detail
- Ability to deal with people at all organizational levels within and outside forteq.
- Good administrative, analytical, mathematical, interpersonal, organizational, planning, problem solving and oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability in directing and training people is required.
- Ability to perform basic inspections using hand gages (CMM programming, advanced testing skills preferred).
- Ability to use MS office software such as Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
- Familiar with ERP systems such as IQMS (Preferred)
- Familiar with MiniTAB (Preferred)
- Familiar with GD&T
- Familiar with Blueprint reading
Education and Job Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or relevant field.
- 5-10 years in manufacturing. Minimum of 5 years working in QA/ QC.
- Experience working within IATF Automotive environment (Preferred).
- Experience working within a Plastic Injection Molding environment (Preferred).
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Required to stand, walk, push and pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
- Potential lifting of material up to 55 pounds in weight.
- Encounter high noise levels within OSHA limits.
- Encounter physical hazards related to moving tooling, machines and equipment.
- Skin exposure to resins, oils and releasing agents.
- Good vision required for reading machine dials and readouts.
- Ability to monitor audible machine alarms to identify need for technical support.
