Position Summary
The Injection Molding Engineer serves as the technical authority and key expert in injection molds, process stability, and dimensional product quality.
He/She will hold full technical accountability for mold functionality, process robustness, and achieving required manufacturing capabilities. This role involves leading the industrialization of new projects, performing advanced dimensional deviation analysis, making critical decisions on mold design modifications, and representing the company during technical customer negotiations. He/She acts as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues in production.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Authority
- Lead technical mold design reviews (DFM / feasibility review).
- Define technical acceptance criteria for molds and approve key design elements.
- Oversee and evaluate mold trials (T0–T3).
- Identify design risks and propose corrective actions.
- Decide on tool modifications in collaboration with the tool shop.
- Represent Engineering during customer audits and technical reviews.
2. Process Strategy & Scientific Molding
- Define robust process windows based on Scientific Molding principles (in close cooperation with Production Technologists).
- Correlate Moldflow simulation results with real-world production.
- Provide technical process approval prior to series production.
3. Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Provide expert interpretation of technical drawings and tolerance chains.
- Perform advanced analysis of Dimensional reports (CMM, optical, CT) and FAI / PPAP documentation.
- Identify root causes of dimensional deviations.
- Assess tolerance feasibility relative to injection molding technology capabilities.
- Define balanced corrective action strategies (Mold vs. Process vs. Material).
4. New Project Implementation
- Lead technical feasibility assessments.
- Develop validation strategies according to APQP.
- Actively participate in Process FMEA creation.
- Define measures to mitigate technological risks.
- Provide final technical approval before Start of Production (SOP).
5. Technical Leadership & Standardization
- Mentor process engineers and colleagues.
- Establish and optimize internal standards.
- Drive structured problem-solving initiatives.
- Contribute to strategic decisions regarding new technologies and investments.
Candidate Profile
Education, Experience & Expertise
- Secondary school diploma (technical field) or University degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in plastic injection molding (preferred).
- English language proficiency at B2 level.
- Knowledge of injection mold design.
- Proficiency in CAD systems (Siemens NX preferred).
- Knowledge of Autodesk Moldflow Insight or Adviser; ability to link simulation data with the actual process is a significant advantage.
